dear oscars 2011,

after an hour spent trying to watch you online, you were not even that great. i've always taken you with a grain of salt. you are so extravangant and fancy, it makes me a little grossed out, what so much money is spent on. plus... i mean only 7 winners in the past 73 years of oscars have been given to african americans. enough said.

but...i almost always can't help but watch you every year because well....i love movies and most things movie related (except the crazy new prices to go see an actual movie in the theater). but i find myself constantly disappointed at your predictability and your lack of ever picking anything new or daring or original.

i personally like movies that make me feel strongly. that can be difficult to watch, that tackle things that matter. that i find myself changed by just watching. that leave me with something important at the end. that make it worth the 12 bucks i just spent.

i know you aren't the be all end all for the people who make movies such as i've just described. They make them because they also love movies in that way, because they want to do all those things. And they will continue on doing films that rock, regardless of the awards...

So at least, thank the film heavens for that.
