dear the quiet of the city at night and early in the morning,

sometimes i can not believe how quiet you are. in my apartment there is mostly always street noise, cars and drunks and whatnot. but when i am walking along your side streets going to work or elsewhere, like tonight, and i am listening to my ipod, it is like the silence gets real loud presses in on my ears and i have to shut off my music just to listen. of course you aren't crystal clear quiet always. in the mornings there are the crazy squirrels that make ungodly noises whilst eating their peanuts and assorted apples and scraps and things. and the birds lately in the trees even though it is definitely not spring yet. but sometimes i don't pass even a single person or car. that dead. and thinking of all the thousands millions of people snug in their beds makes me feel special still being up and also makes me want to be snuggled up too. warm and cozy. sleep face. it is neat to think of how everyone sleeps at some point. that it is one of the things we all do. it is one of those things that if you think about a person doing, it makes them seem so human. another thing is watching anyone eat an ice cream cone. another thing is watching someone eat alone at a restaurant. another thing is thinking of someone as a child.
anyways, all that to say, i am impressed city. constantly.

yours,
lesley d.
